A 71-year-old patient from Azerbaijan suffered from pain in her shoulder joint for several years. Because of the increasing pain, movement in the joint was limited.

Injections of painkillers had no effect, the patient practically lived on painkillers. The MRI of the shoulder joint revealed serious damage to the articular structures, the restoration of which was not possible. The only correct solution in this case is joint prosthetics. We consulted with an orthopedic traumatologist with extensive experience in the treatment of joints, Dr. Humam Baki. Dr. Baki has previously operated on our patients, having performed dozens of successful joint replacement surgeries. Having studied the MRI and X-ray images, the doctor suggested prosthetics using the Reverse type implant of the Italian brand LİMA. Reverse-type prostheses allow restoring joint movements in full, identical to a normal human joint. The situation was complicated by the fact that the patient was overweight (over 110 kg), which required the use of a special operating table. Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital, which has JCI accreditation and all the necessary equipment, was chosen as the place for the operation.

The operation lasted 3.5 hours. The surgeon removed damaged joint structures and remnants of articular cartilage. Then the implant components were installed and the doctor checked the mobility of the joint, after which the operation was completed and the patient was transferred to the ward. On the second day after the operation, the patient was discharged for observation. On the 14th day the bandage was removed and yesterday the patient flew home safely. In 2 weeks she will undergo special physiotherapy.

P.S. In the pictures you can see the joint before the operation (there is no joint space, the bones are in contact and friction and destruction of the joint occurs) and after (bright light structures are the components of the prosthesis).

We wish you good health!
